Curlew Merinos is a family owned and operated farm at Edenhope, Victoria. We breed merino rams for sale and for use in our own commercial flock of 17,000 merino ewes.

We pride ourselves on combining objective ASBV's with elite white wools. We are striving for the optimum balance between wool, carcass, reproduction and welfare.  This allows us to maximise our returns per hectare.

30 years of financial benchmarking shows us that our merino x white suffolk enterprise is more profitable than a straight merino enterprise. We want to breed our own ewes for this enterprise, to allow us to control the breeding objective and to comply with our strict biosecurity plan.  We have a strong a focus on wool quality, reproduction and low labour requirements. The higher the reproductive rate of our merino ewes the less we need to join to a merino and the more that can breed a cross bred lamb. We also get more cross bred lambs per ewe by chasing reproduction.

We aim to have a medium sized ewe, cutting a moderate amount of fine white wool. We have high carcass and high reproduction to allow for faster finishing lambs and fast maturing ewe lambs that we can join at 8 months. We aim to hook our merino wether lambs as soon as possible to free up more hectares to increase the number of lambing ewes we can run.

We have been selecting for worm resistance for a very long time, with wrinkle and dag added in to cease mulesing. We have recently added footrot and flystrike resistance to our breeding objective.
